Greenleaf Spring Fling - Snow's Getaway

After finishing the Glam Townhouse, I decided I wanted to do a small project.  Coincidentally, Greenleaf Dollhouses was starting their Annual Spring Fling Contest at the same time.  Every year, Greenleaf produces a new base kit for participants to use.  I've been so inspired by the past entrants.  This is the first year that I participated.  We had until September 3rd to finish.  Of course, I left all the details to the last minute and then decided to go away the weekend it was due!  I was up late Thursday night finishing the details and took the photos first thing on Friday morning.  I think my family was waiting in the car as I sent them off to Greenleaf.

Here it is: Snow's Getaway...

I've been wanting to do a modern version of a fairy tale setting since seeing the wonderful paintings of Snow White's house by Janet Hill.   Then the Television series "Once Upon a Time" debuted here in the U.S.  I loved Snow White's/Mary Margaret's modern apartment in the series.  This project is inspired by both the series and Janet Hill's paintings...

The apartment is an old Apple Farm office Building...

I've been wanting to brick something and this seemed like a small enough project to try it.  I used Brae's Tutorial on Otterine.com

Old apple crates are the planters.  I used vintage apple crate  labels that had something to do with Snow White (Crow, Queen, Snomaid).  These were my first try at flower kits.  The Pansies and Hydrangea's are Bonnie Lavish kits.  The tulips were a unknown kit that I got in a grab bag at a miniature show.  The other flowers are Dollar store finds.

I bought the kitchen set from Miniatures.com.  I decided the fridge was to big for the scene so I made a Smeg fridge from a Michaels wooden box.

The bedding is taken from a vintage tea towel made by my grandmother.

It was fun to fill the bookshelf with Snowish accessaries.   Forest animals, apples, etc.  The HOME houses are from Katie's Clay Corner.

The shelving unit is the top of a Michael's hutch. The mugs are made with paper.  There are clay strawberries in the basket.

Time to get back to the practical magic house....

Currently working on...

After finishing up the 1930's Glam Townhouse, I decided that I'd like to work on something smaller and more contained.  I decided to give the Greenleaf Spring Fling a try.  Luckily for me it is more of a Spring/Summer Fling and the due date is September 3rd (Labor Day).

I'm not trying to go for the win.  Just enjoying myself working on a small creation.

1930's Glam Townhouse - Top Floor..

Originally, the top floor of the 1930's Glam Townhouse was going to be garret-like, shabby and rundown.  It was going to be Miriam Smith's large room and art studio.  In my haste to get the house done, I decided to go with the more traditional approach, a bedroom for Miriam and a bedroom for Miriam's daughter, Constance.  Miriam is supposedly a widow.

Miriam's room...

The lamp on the dressing table is my first attempt at a handmade lamp...

A love letter on Miriam's dressing table (a secret love?).

Miriam's daughter, Constance's room...(Constance looks more like the unwed Eveline than the supposedly widowed Miriam.)

These rooms were done in haste and I will probably go back to them sometime.  But for now it is time to put the 1930's Glam Townhouse to bed.

I hope you've enjoyed the tour!

1930s Glam Townhouse - Bedroom...

This room was my favorite room to work on, more Hollywood Regency than Art Deco.  I got my inspiration from the bedroom set in Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day which is a fun movie to watch...

The glass tiles are from Home Depot (oops one light is out!)...

I had intended to have a lot more glamourous dresses in the closet but I quickly came to find that miniature clothing is not my forte...

The fabric that I used fro the wall and bedspread was from a favorite dress of mine that had become a bit snug!

The wall was simple to create.  I pinned the fabric and batting to graph paper and sewed along the graph lines...

Gone with the Wind was a favorite movie and book of mine when I was a teenager.  The nightstands are part of light sculpture from the dollar store...

The curtains from the same materials.  I didn't keep track of the grain sometimes it is going horizontal and sometimes vertical...

Glam 1930's Townhouse - Living Room

This was a fun room to work on.  I loved picking out the artwork for the walls.  Various artists from that were popular in the thirties.

The coffee table was a splurge at the last miniature show I attended.  It is from the amazing Peter Tucker.  It was very hard to pick just one thing from his work.

I am not very patient when it comes to measuring as you can see from the cockeyed molding!

The molding was inspired (or should I say copied)  by the grand hall in New Upstairs Downstairs Series...

I love the bar cart with it's mini working casters!  I ordered the Reutter whiskey serving set from New England miniatures to round out what I already had.  (The soda water bottle is much better than the one I tried to make!)

Mini invitations for the very popular Eveline...

There is always a party in progress at Lyons House...

1930s Glam Townhouse - Foyer

Welcome to Lyons House.  If you remember from this post, (which was over a year ago!)  Lyons House is the home of Eveline Bay.  Eveline is glamorous 1930's starlet.  The studio promotes her as the daughter of a wealthy industrialist but she is actually a small town girl with big city dreams from the mid-west.

The door is answered by Miriam Smith, Eveline's housekeeper/personal assistant (she is Lucinda an Emanjay doll that I got at Minidolls.com)...

The foyer...

 Evening guests?...

Some mail waiting on the sideboard...

The kitchen will be the next stop on the tour...
